Hi, yes, it's me, Malora Hardin. You probably know me from a lot of roles I've played, like when I played Jan on The Office. That was funny, but this is not today. I'm here to talk to you about Dementia. You might be surprised by this, but Dementia is not a disease. It's actually a syndrome with many underlying causes. And as of today, no medical cures.
The loss of memories and cognitive functions that occur over time is very serious and not something to be ashamed of or hide from your doctor. If you had chest pain or dizziness that wouldn't go away. You'd get it checked out, right?
Interestingly, some cognitive impairments that aren't dementia may be reversible or manageable, and not all cognitive impairments lead to dementia. You should know resources are available, and knowledge is power.
If you or someone you love is experiencing unusual behavior, repeating themselves has trouble finding words, not recognizing others, or getting lost, it's time to seek professional help. Talk to a doctor.
