Barbara Marté, RN
With deepest sorrow we acknowledge the life and legacy of Ms. Barbara Marté, a long-time trusted Advisor and friend of the Dementia Society of America.
You may read her obituary here.
Barbara spent many years in clinical practice as a general duty RN. She eventually specialized and achieved Certification as a Rehabilitation Registered Nurse and a Disability Management Specialist. This aspect of her career eventually led her to developing home and facility based programs for individuals with Traumatic Head Injury and Spinal Cord Injury to facilitate return to home and community. A natural progression seemed to lead to Senior Health and Wellness. Working through Process Improvement, Accreditation, New Program Development and Marketing became an avenue to foster change in how services are delivered both at home and in facilities with special emphasis on Brain Diseases.
After so many years working with large organizations, she became an owner of Seniors Helping Seniors® franchise. This helped address her need to return to directly serving the seniors on a very personal basis for 8 years.
Barbara has respect for folks who have reached their senior years and have the determination to continue to be as independent as possible. Currently, seniors who choose to remain in their own homes encounter many challenges. Navigating the various systems and accessing services should not be among those challenges. Barbara sold her business in 2015 in order to provide consulting services to seniors and their families who are trying to navigate the world of senior services to best meet their individual needs with consideration for existing resources and wishes.
A very special component of all she has done is related to brain disease and brain health. She is a teacher and speaker to such issues to professionals and the community at large.
